Originally from Slovenia, Stephanie Jakovac arrived in Australia in 1973. After extensive study in both Slovenia and Australia, Stephanie commenced her career as a commercial artist while continuing to paint for recreational purposes.
While working as a secondary and TAFE teacher, Stephanie became seriously involved in painting and focused on her art from a different perspective – passionately portraying her experiences in her artwork.
Stephanie likes to observe people from a distance yet takes a closer look at their relationships. Stephanie finds people a great inspiration for many of her artworks. Her passion for people inspires her to draw and paint portraits of people from real life.
In 2024, Stephanie will be returning to Slovenia as a guest artist, showcasing a collection of her paintings of local Australian native flowers.
Hyphen’s Creative Studio residency offers an exciting space for artists, designers and other creatives to develop their work in a purpose-built artist’s studio within Hyphen - Wodonga Library Gallery. Hyphen artists in residence have unique opportunities to share knowledge and skills, be inspired and connect with the community in a vibrant cultural centre. This is the seventh residency in the Creative Studio program.
